Oakland School for the Arts – Visual Arts Emphasis

Visual Arts Emphasis – Oakland School for the Arts
The Visual Arts emphasis is located on the second floor of the Fox Building in Downtown Oakland. The young talented students are required to audition into the arts program from the early age of 10-11 years old. They are taught by professional artists/teacher the fundamentals of various techniques and disciplines including intaglio printing, Chine Colle printing techniques, etching, watercolors, sketching 2D & 3D imagery, sculpture, oils. The instruction is carried over a double period class and each student is required to go through a semester art rubric to qualify to exhibit their work in the two annual gallery shows.
Art instruction requires many different materials and in some cases quite expensive equipment. Some of the families don’t have the resources to maintain the program, so we are raising the much needed funds to support all the students in the emphasis to make sure all the students can fully participate, together as a group. Funds are also needed for local guest artists to participate in the teaching program.
